It all began in 1967 as a project to Centennial year. The name Cyren was not that old and we had nothing in common with "Simon de Cyren", from the bible, which I took pleasure telling my friends I was a direct descendant of. It was to get a clear idea of my ancestors that the project began.

First, I talked to relatives. The first one were from my own town Trois-Rivieres, followed by those of Becancour (the birth place of Cyrenne and Syrenne) and Fannystelle in Manitoba. I must thank my sister Germaine for letting me browse her notes on our ancestors and Rachel Cyrenne (spouse of Bruno Cyrenne) of Becancour. As for the Cyrenne and Syrenne of Western Canada, they were all very happy when I found a link from them to the Cyren of Becancour.

Living in Ottawa, I was able to browse the Canadian archives and make notes from birth, marriage and death records. With so much data I made the error of wanting to trace all the descendants of the first Cyren instead of searching only my own ascendants. The result? A no ending family tree. IN 1968 I found only 70 families of Cyrenne / Syrenne living in Canada. My research provided me with about 800 names (including the first eight generations). Now that I have decided to continue the research where I left it in 1980, there are 250 families in Canada. From that, it is suspected that an additional 1660 names could be added to the database. That my friends is lots of work, but I have the time I am now retired.
